It’s a pretty big deal when the entire country is invited to turn up for a skills event.

Thanks to virtual technology, that is exactly what is on offer at this year’s “Level Up!”, organized by Skills/Compétences Canada.

The one-day event, on 25 February, is a chance for young people to explore what skilled trade or technology career or education path might suit them best.

Using text chat, they can talk directly to more than 70 industry, education, and government partners of Skills/Compétences Canada along with its 13 provincial and territorial Member Organizations.

For employers, it is a unique opportunity to connect with Canada’s youth and to network with other industry, education, and network partners.

“Level Up!” participants can first virtually tour the main Exhibit Hall and the Skills Canada Hall after logging in.

This is the first of a series of virtual national events and activities happening in 2021 during, WorldSkills Year of Innovation, which highlights harnessing technology for skills development. Due to the pandemic, the Skills Canada National Competition can no longer go ahead as planned in June in Québec City.

The day will also see a series of Essential Skills Talks and panel discussions looking at everything from skilled trade and technology careers to inclusion and the importance of essential workers.

Canadian HGTV personalities Sebastian Clovis and Kate Campbell will be hosting events during the day, including a carpentry and home project Q&A with Skills/Compétences Canada’s partner Stanley DeWalt.

An additional incentive is the opportunity to win exciting prizes for both schools and individuals with a trivia challenge and a virtual scavenger hunt.

On offer is an all-expenses trip for two to the 2022 Skills Canada National Competition, in Vancouver, an Xbox Series X, and Beats Solo 3 headphones.

For schools, the winning prize pack includes Stanley DeWalt Scroll Saws and other partner donations.
