WorldSkills thanks Michelle Bussey

The WorldSkills Board of Directors and Secretariat thank Michelle Bussey for ten years of service to WorldSkills. As the Communications, Marketing and Special Events Director, Michelle has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment.

Her breadth of knowledge and experience was continually called upon in the development and execution of the organization’s strategic direction over the last ten years as WorldSkills went from 42 to 75 Members, hosted five WorldSkills Competitions, and established its global brand. 

“Michelle’s experience, creativity, and vision have been instrumental to the growth of WorldSkills,” said David Hoey, CEO of WorldSkills International. “We are thankful she shared her dedicated passion with us, influencing all aspects of the organization. She has improved the world through the power of skills, and for that we are grateful.”

During her time at WorldSkills, Michelle’s portfolio continually expanded to include all elements related to communications, public relations, marketing, and special events. Fundamental elements to WorldSkills were developed under Michelle’s direction such as the new brand, WorldSkills Leaders Forum, WorldSkills Conference Programme, and One School One Country. At the WorldSkills Competitions, Michelle oversaw complex components including the Ceremonies, special events, media, and marketing.

In addition to her leadership role with communications and marketing, Michelle had an influential role in the development of human resources policies, partnerships, as well as operational and strategic plans. She approached each initiative with the goal of developing a global, visionary, and innovative brand that would support and celebrate the achievements of the Champions and Members it serves.

WorldSkills International was not Michelle’s first experience using skills competitions to advance trade and technology careers. Prior to joining the Secretariat, she was the Executive Director for Skills Canada - Nova Scotia bringing her total years in the WorldSkills family to 16. Michelle continues her work in the advancement of skilled talent in her new role as the Director of Development for the Nova Scotia Community College Foundation in Halifax, Canada.

The WorldSkills family offers Michelle, a true global citizen, our deepest thanks for her commitment to the WorldSkills movement; a movement that is stronger because of her belief in it.
