ws_bod_201409.jpgOn 15 September 2014, the new WorldSkills International Board of Directors for 2015-2019 was selected during the WorldSkills General Assembly in beautiful Lucerne, Switzerland.

The election process began after Chair Simon Bartley and CEO David Hoey welcomed everyone to the WorldSkills General Assembly 2014. The new Board will include members that represent countries from around the world, with a variety of experience and backgrounds. They will take office after the WorldSkills Competition in São Paulo in August 2015.

The Board of Directors for 2015 – 2019 will be:

  • Simon Bartley (United Kingdom) – President of WorldSkills and Chair of the Board of Directors
  • Stefan Praschl (Austria) - Vice President Technical Affairs and Chair of Technical Committee
  • Jos de Goey (Netherlands) – Vice President Strategic Affairs and Chair of Strategy Committee
  • San-Quei Lin (Chinese Taipei) – Vice President Special Affairs
  • Michael Fung (Hong Kong, China) – Vice Chair Technical Committee
  • Laurence Gates (France) – Vice Chair Strategy Committee
  • Terry Cooke (Canada) – Treasurer
  • Ali Al Marzouqi (United Arab Emirates) – Ex officio for WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017

*note: An additional Ex officio will be appointed to the Board in São Paulo in August 2015 to represent the organizer of WSC2019.

“I am humbled by the confidence shown in me by the Delegates of WorldSkills. I put it down not to my performance but to the performance of the full Board and Secretariat over the past three years.” says Simon Bartley, President of WorldSkills. “I look forward to building on the momentum with the team to raise the profile of the economic power of skills on a global scale.”

In the year leading up to the new Board taking office, there is much work to be done by the existing Board including WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 and its accompanying Conference Programme. These events, along with ensuring the strategic plan objectives are being met, will give the new Board a clear direction of the future of WorldSkills by the time 2015 arrives.
