WorldSkills Asia’s youth shine in Abu Dhabi
The second WorldSkills Asia Competition took place in Abu Dhabi from 27 to 29 November, bringing participants from more than 30 countries.
Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, WorldSkills Asia Abu Dhabi 2023 was organized by Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET).
Competitors, Experts, and Workshop Managers from more than 30 countries took part in WorldSkills Asia Abu Dhabi 2023, the second held since the establishment of WorldSkills Asia in 2018.
Over 500 Competitors, Experts, and Workshop Managers travelled to the Abu Dhabi from 27 to 29 November for an event that brought skilled youth into the spotlight at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
They competed in 28 skills in the categories of Construction and Building Technology, Creative Arts and Fashion, Information and Communication Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Social and Personal Services, and Transportation and Logistics. The Competition also included the category of Junior Skills, where competitors were able to compete in seven skills.
With a large delegation, Chinese Taipei led the medal count with 12 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze. They were followed by the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Korea. The Closing Ceremony celebrated all Champions and their talents, highlighting how their skills and determination can uplift their communities, drive developments, and change worlds.
“This dynamic event represents the recognition of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a vital force in shaping the future of our region. We celebrate the significance of TVET in equipping individuals with practical skills, empowering them to thrive in the ever-evolving world of work,” said Dr Mubarak Saeed Al Shamsi, Founder and President of WorldSkills Asia and Director General of ACTVET.
WorldSkills Asia competition will take place every two years in one of the Member countries, with the goal to inspire Asian youth to pursue careers in technical and vocational fields.
