Brazilian students are the next in line to take ‘A New Look at Skills’

SENAI hosts 3D design bootcamp for WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 Visitor Experience project

A week-long design and development bootcamp – focussing on interactive 3D modelling and animations that will explain skills competitions right across WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 – has just been completed at SENAI’s “Armando de Arruda Pereira” campus in São Caetano do Sul, 6–10 April 2015. 

Working with trainers from Autodesk partner ETC Brasil, 50 students and teachers completed an Autodesk Certified User exam at the start of the week. Following this, 18 of the group went forward to complete the Autodesk Certified Professional exam and register as Autodesk Student Experts. Now, using a cross-section of Autodesk software, this team is starting work on a series of 3D visuals that will be incorporated into the visitor experience at the upcoming WorldSkills Competition. The team includes a number of WorldSkills Champions, including group leaders Fernando Telli, Guilherme Augusto and Paulo Kazuo (all of whom represented Brazil in Mechanical Engineering Design - CAD at WorldSkills Competitions in 2005, 2011 and 2013 respectively).

Autodesk Global Partner representative Matthew Bell was in São Paulo to oversee this initial training. “The dedication and passion of this group of students and educators has been a real eye-opener; their focus on making sure this project will enable the best visitor experience possible. There is a lot more work to do, but I think a key achievement of the past week has been opening everybody’s eyes to this potential,” he said.

“The important thing for us at Autodesk is to be actively involved in the work of the WorldSkills Foundation, by further supporting WorldSkills Member organizations as we are now doing in Brazil. It has been fantastic to come to São Paulo this week to do this: to participate, offer input, advice, guidance, and connect our local teams. The initial 3D work that has been produced is stunning, and I am confident that we are going to get even better outcomes than we did for the pilot New Look At Skills project at The Skills Show last year.”

WorldSkills Foundation Project Developer Seán Kearney was another keen participant in the bootcamp, adding “this is another great of example of our partners combining expertise and resources to deliver something new and valuable for WorldSkills as a whole. We are extremely grateful to SENAI for this opportunity to engage some of their very best young students and teachers, and the team are confident the project will really benefit competition interpretation for all involved at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015… whether visiting the event in person, or learning more about the event online.”
