Blooming With Pride for World Youth Skills Day
On her third day of competing at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015, Ana Vashadze of Team Georgia, says she is motivated to do her best in the Floristy Competition. Ana explained that she is someone who is always ready to embrace opportunity, so when WorldSkills put a call out to Competitors and the public to submit videos celebrating their skills, she jumped at the opportunity.
In celebration of World Youth Skills Day, the public and Competitors of the 43rd WorldSkills Competition were invited to make a video that represented “A day in the life”, highlighting their passion for their skill.
In recognition of her outstanding video, Ana received a hand-delivered Samsung tablet from WorldSkills President Simon Bartley. Bartley congratulated Ana on her outstanding representation of her country both in her video submission and in competing in Floristry at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015.
On 18 December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly, declared 15th July as the World Youth Skills Day. Sri Lanka initiated this resolution, with the assistance of the G77 and China. Promoting and celebrating World Youth Skills Day is meant to raise awareness of the importance of skill excellence as a means to address the challenges of unemployment and under employment, and as a way to achieve better socio-economic conditions for all youth, today and in future. Campaigns like the WorldSkills “A day in the life” give youth around the world a special opportunity to showcase their skill and share their dreams about how they will improve the world with the power of skills.
