Over 800 young hopefuls took part in the 42nd WorldSkills France National Skills Competitions held in Clermont-Ferrand in the region of Auvergne.

Watched by over 70,000 onlookers, the Competitors battled it out in 50 skill areas to win their chance of a place at WorldSkills Leipzig 2013. Representing 24 regions from across France, the young professionals were recognized for their efforts at an action packed Closing Ceremony held on Saturday 24 November.

The Competition which took place over three days was visited by a number of high profile visitors including Mr Thierry Repentin, Minister in charge of Apprenticeship, and Mr Benoit Hamon, Junior Minister for Social Economy. There was also a special winner this year: a Competitor from Guadeloupe won a gold medal in Beauty Care. It’s the first time a Competitor from one of France’s overseas territories has won a gold medal in the National Finals.

Simon Bartley, President of WorldSkills International commented:

“I have visited WorldSkills France National Competition several times and the event never fails to impress me. Although I was regrettably unable to be in Clermont-Ferrand this year, I have seen the footage on line and have no doubt that France have pulled off an amazing event once again. It is a fantastic achievement by WorldSkills France to have so many regions from across France participating in the event and on behalf of WorldSkills I send my wholehearted congratulations to everyone involved.”
